Today I got one of those annoying pre-recorded messages from the NM Republican Party about a bill in the state senate that is about gay marriage. I kept listening, hoping to get some kind of menu option to talk to a real person and opt out of these calls when I hear the closing lines:
"If you are repulsed by the left wing drift of the Democratic Party remember you are WELCOME in the Republican Party."
Seriously, I believe in being open minded with candidates and not simply voting party line, but this commercial makes me want to vow never to vote Republican again just on the principle that they should not get away with being such jackasses.
ETA: you can see my email to the RNC in the comments.

"If you are repulsed by the left wing drift of the Democratic Party remember you are welcome in the Republican Party."
This message makes me want to vow never to vote Republican again just on the principle that being such a condescending jackass is not acceptable. Leaving aside my feeling that marriage should not be legislated or in any way discriminatory, this is a mean spirited, insulting, and divisive. I can only imagine that what few amount of voters that you might gain from such an appeal would be offset by the amount of intelligent, open-minded, and educated voters who are driven away by such unbecoming tactics. This is not good PR, it is offensive. Instead of attempting to create reactionary situations with inflammatory language try calmly and rationally laying out the issues and treating both the voter and the opposition with respect. The only way the Republican Party will survive is if it shows itself a respectful and intelligent political entity with valid alternative viewpoints. Resorting to these petty tactics makes a 150 year old entity seem like an ill-educated punk teenager attempting to provoke people into a reaction.
Be a better party. I'm an intelligent citizen, and I demand more of any party I would vote for.
