Well [livejournal.com profile] angeleledhwen, I tried writing that mirror fic for your birthday, but the theme I was going for won't work, so I'm starting from scratch. Instead, in honor of your introducing me to [livejournal.com profile] moonpetal, I thought I'd give you a nice little muppet slash fic. *g* We shall convert you yet!

Bestest Friends
by J. Lynn

Sesame Street is a place where many things strange and wonderful happen. They happen so often that many of its residents quit thinking that they were strange any more, but just part of the wonderful ordinary happenings in their little world. It would not be going far to say that very little could shock the Sesame Street residents.

Elmo, having lived on Sesame Street all his life, had the firm belief that nothing was really strange, but rather an odd sort of wonderful ordinary. Even then, Elmo found him self troubled after seeing Miles kissing his good friend Charlie in the park on a spring afternoon.

*********

It's not easy being a little red monster. Seeing Miles and Charlie kissing had simply made that fact come to the forefront. Why was Miles kissing Charlie that way? They were two boys, and in Elmo's books the only people who kissed that way were boys kissing girls, daddies kissing mommies, and princes kissing princesses. Never had they even suggested that boys could kiss boys!

Now normally Elmo would have gone to Maria or Gordon or Bob or any one of the other adults on Sesame Street to ask for this to be explained. The trouble was that it was *Miles* who had been kissing Charlie. What if it was wrong? Elmo didn't want to get Miles in trouble! After all, Miles was one of his best friends. Elmo thought about all these things as he sat on his favorite bench in the park.

Elmo was startled when he heard a concerned sounding "What's up Elmo?" from beside him. He looked up and saw Telly standing beside him.

"Nothing much. It's only just..."

"Just what?" Telly asked as he settled himself on the bench beside Elmo.

"Well, can Telly keep a secret?" Elmo looked hopeful. Telly could explain this to him.

"Sure Elmo," Telly replied without hesitation. "So what is it?"

"Well, Elmo saw Miles kissing Charlie like the way Louise and Maria kiss. Telly, why was Miles kissing Charlie?"

"Because Miles likes Charlie the way Louise likes Maria." Telly's answer was nice and simple, and it made almost everything seem like it made sense, but...

"But they're both boys. None of Elmo's books have boys kissing boys! Boys always kiss girls."

"Well, books don't always tell everything that happens," Telly answered calmly.

"You sure?" Elmo asked skeptically.

"Positive. Look I can prove it to you. See Bert over there?" Tellly pointed across the park, to where Bert was feeding the pigeons.

"Yeah."

"Well, Bert and Ernie kiss like that."

"They *do*?" Elmo looked at Telly in awe. "But Elmo's never seen them kiss!"

Telly laughed. "You want to know why you've never seen them kiss?"

Elmo nodded.

"Well, there are two reasons. One is that Bert's shy. The other is that Ernie is talking or running around all day. Bert would have to catch him first."

Elmo grinned. Yep, that was Ernie. "So it's okay for boys to kiss boys?"

"Yep, I promise."

"Okay." Elmo looked at Telly speculatively. "Telly, Elmo thinks he'd like to kiss you. Would that be okay?"

"Well, alright," Telly said shyly.

Elmo leaned up and brushed a kiss on the corner of Telly's mouth. Then he jumped off the bench and looked at the other monster. "Thanks Telly. You're my bestest friend." With one last smile he turned and began walking back towards Sesame Street, leaving a bemused Telly behind.

Woo Hoo! *BigSillyGrin* That was cuuuuuteee!!!!!!!! *takes deep breath* I will refrain from squealing like a fangirl here. *calms self*

Okay *grin* I liked your Elmo, he has a strong voice. Tell doesn't seem to be nervous enough, but that could be written off as his acting the 'big brother' part to Elmo, since he is older and Elmo's very young. and *grin* Overall it's great *grins* and y'know I wish CTW would write something like that into an episode of Sesame Street. *dances* It was cute! It makes me want to write that Kermit/Scooter fic. *dances*
